Filmmakers have long been inspired by zombies. The earliest of these films was white zombie which was made in 1932. Bela Lugosi plays the villian who uses voodoo to turn a young women into a zombie.
Since then there have been many great movies that were inspired from the idea of the zombie. Some argue maybe the best zombie movie ever is night of the living dead. It was directed by George Romero in 1968. He created what most people think of when they think of a zombie. The slow moving dead that have risen to eat humans and can only be killed by shooting their head. George Romero went on to direct and write Dawn of the Dead, another zombie masterpeice.
Matt Busch is a well known artist in the entertainment industry. He has worked on many illustrations for Star Wars. This series may be his best yet. He has managed to zombify Star Wars and I could never have imagined it would be done so well. He adds a grunginess to the poster without losing the original feel of Star Wars. Its pretty amazing. Can we say badass?
Doom was created by id Software, the same company that brought you Wolfenstein. In Doom, a doorway to Hell was created and some of its tenants got out, killing anything in their path. The people that were killed ultimately turned into zombies. The game play is similar to that of Wolfenstein. The main character is known as Reaper, and he goes around and kills zombies with the option of using several different weapons. Since the game takes place in the future, there are the good old machine guns and rocket launchers but they also give you the Plasma Gun and the B.M.G. (Big Motherf****** Gun). The way to kill the zombies is to shoot or slash them. Doom was followed by many sequels. A movie based on the game was released in 2005, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Sergeant and Karl Urban as Reaper. This movie is awesome and it shows a first person shooter sequence which looks a lot like the actual video game. On top of that, both the “The Rock” and Karl Urban are super hot!
Wolfenstein is a first person shooter that has zombies as the enemies. For the first few levels it is pretty normal. You are a prisoner in Castle Wolfenstein, which was run by the Nazis during WWII. The first several levels you are fighting Nazi Guards and trying to escape the castle. After you escape the castle, you move on to Operation Eisenfaust where the Nazis are creating mutant soldiers. To kill the zombies you get a variety of weapons. You get a large selection of guns (pistols and machine guns), a rocket launcher, a knife, and yes even the infamous chainsaw. Wolfenstein returned in 2001 with Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and a third game is to be released in 2009.
This was the first video game that introduces the zombies. Released in 1984, Zombie Zombie is a sequel to the game “Ant Attack.” In this game the zombie infestation started when a man (you) returned to a place rumored to be cursed. The man opened a door to the dark lands, unleashing a disease that causes the dead to come to life. The only way to kill the zombie is to lure it to high ground and somehow get it to fall off the cliff.
What some people may not know is that the idea of a zombie was originated on a small island called Haiti. The voodou religion was first practiced in Haiti. It is through this practice of voodou that an evil “boker” would be known to use a magical powder to create zombies. This powder would actually be made with various toxic substances from spiders, lizards, frogs, and the famous puffer fish. The fish especially contains a very toxic substance which would cause paralysis to its victim. Everyone would believe the person to be dead since they cannot move and their breath has slowed down. However, later that person would be revived and then be under the bokers power as a zombie.
