This has got to be the coolest zombie event I’ve heard of thus far. Not only do you get to dress up as a zombie and parade around Los Angeles on a night other than Halloween, you get to see awesome zombie art! A perfect Pre-Valentines day activity!

The opening reception on February 6th starts with a zombie walk, which involves dressing up and acting (for some of us) like a zombie all through the city. Love it! Then ends up at a huge art show at Nucleus Gallery. This art event gathers some of the most recognized names in the zombie industry as well as fellow zombie enthusiasts.

Free prizes, free refreshments, free admission (for those dressed as zombies, otherwise $2 bucks. So its either this event or a bottle of Charles Shaw. hmmm…), live music and book signing are in store for you at this monstrous gathering. Event runs Feb 6-22, more details at gallerynucleus.com. So go and get your zombie on, and bring a zombie lovin date!

Pep-Z

Pep-Z
Pep-Z

So, I just posted on facebook that the only problem with my pepperspray is that it wont work on zombies. I have often thought late at night while walking to my car, this is great if a human attacks me but what about zombies? What if a zombie wanders around a dark corner and attacks me? Then one of my friends came to the rescue and told me about this product. It’s called Pep-Z and it is a pepper spray that actually works on zombies! This is exactly what I needed. Now I can have peace of mind that if I get mixed up in a zombie attack I will have some kind of defense against it. My only other choice would be to rely on my fighting skills which I have to admit aren’t that up to par lately. I have added the link below so you can go to the Pep-Z website and check it out for yourself. “Survive, Stay Alive, Pep-Z, the choice for another generation!”

Zombie Science

On January 6, 2010, in News, by zombie amy

"Would you like to volunteer for my medical study of the human brain? Just fill out these forms." **drool**

Zombies are a bigger influence that you might think and are even on the minds of scientists. I heard an interesting podcast on NPR about Canadian mathematicians who were trying to predict how epidemics spread by using zombies in their model. Nice. You can read about it here http://www.scpr.org/programs/loh-down-on-science/2010/01/04/zombie-science/.

Interesting out come, those crazy Canadians! Oh no offense, I mean “crazy” in a good way. I love Canada. Throw another shrimp on the bahbie, eh.

Zombies Ahead!!!

On December 23, 2009, in News, by Mers

A Florida Road Sign

I am not sure if I approve of this trend but still it is still really funny. In January of this year hackers broke into a Texas roadsign, changed it to say  “The end is near! Caution! Zombies ahead! Run for cold climate!” Some people were inspired by this and it has appeared in a few places. It has just recently appeared in Florida. This time the signs were programmed to say “Zombie Attack! Evacuate.” While these signs are funny, I don’t believe in crying wolf. Lets say there actually is a zombie attack? What then? People are just going to ignore the signs assuming it’s a joke. So I implore you  hackers out there, Please don’t hack our roadsigns!

Pirate Zombies

Pirate Zombie

Pirate Zombie

Pirate zombies were pirates who were once lost at sea. They have spent a lot of time rotting underwater and are therefore very soggy and grey looking. Usually they have been brought to life because somebody has disturbed their treasure and they will stop at nothing to get it back. If you encounter a pirate zombie the best thing to do is run as they are very difficult to stop unless you give their treasure back. Do not challenge one to a sword fight because you will not win. Do not try to use fire on them because they are still too soggy to burn. Usually people get into trouble because they are too greedy to give up the treasure. They think they might be able to just kill the zombie and keep the treasure. This is not the best tactic and has brought upon many deaths. My advice is to simply try to find their treasure as soon as possible and return it to the zombie. The zombie will then be able to go back to into the ocean to rest leaving you in peace.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

On December 9, 2009, in News, by Mers

prideandprejDo you love Jane Austin and also love zombies? Have you often wondered of a way to get both of these things you love to blend beautifully together? Is it possible?
Well, wonder no longer. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a beautiful book and will satisfy both of those needs. Seth Grahame-Smith is the author and has managed to intertwine the old love story with the undead. The book is also full of illustrations in color which is a definate plus. Pick it up at a book store near you.

Ever wondered, How do I kill a zombie?

On December 8, 2009, in Survival, by Mers

headUnlike a human zombies are not wounded easily as they do not need many of the key processes of the body that a normal human would have. Zombies are basically eating machines they have little to no brain power other than to attack the living by stumbling about with little or no coordination. Zombies in general are unable to use weapons with the exception of the occasional blunt object they primarily attack by biting tearing and scratching. The only effective way to kill a zombie is to destroy the brain or remove the head. Remember to keep this in mind the next time you have a zombie encounter. There are, however, some exceptions to this rule. Please see our species section for more weaknesses specific to each zombie species.

Resident Evil (1996)

On December 8, 2009, in Game Info, by Mers

residentevilResident Evil is probably one of the most well-known zombie video games. The game starts out in a creepy mansion that is full of puzzles and secrets and oh ya zombies. Part of the game is figuring out what the heck is going on. Upon exploring the mansion you can find useful objects to help you on your way. You get several types of weapons, mainly guns, to fight the zombies. You may also find herb packs which definately come in handy. The only problem is while exploring you never know what is going to jump out at you and try to kill you. You tend to get a tense feeling as you search around every new corner or open a new closet. This is the first game that actually scared me to the point where I could only play it during the day. This game has spawned several sequels and three theatrical movies.

Doom (1993)

On December 6, 2009, in Game Info, by Mers
Can we say badass?

Can we say badass?

Doom was created by id Software, the same company that brought you Wolfenstein. In Doom, a doorway to Hell was created and some of its tenants got out, killing anything in their path. The people that were killed ultimately turned into zombies. The game play is similar to that of Wolfenstein. The main character is known as Reaper, and he goes around and kills zombies with the option of using several different weapons. Since the game takes place in the future, there are the good old machine guns and rocket launchers but they also give you the Plasma Gun and the B.M.G. (Big Motherf****** Gun). The way to kill the zombies is to shoot or slash them. Doom was followed by many sequels. A movie based on the game was released in 2005, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Sergeant and Karl Urban as Reaper. This movie is awesome and it shows a first person shooter sequence which looks a lot like the actual video game. On top of that, both the “The Rock” and Karl Urban are super hot!
